What is it?
Mendip Mower Racing and Beer Festival will take place over the bank holiday weekend in Somerset. The event combines mower racing with a beer festival, as well as live music, activities and children’s entertainment.
Lawnmower racing is one of those unusual British pastimes that was thought up over a few pints. The quirky pursuit was invented in 1973 and since then it has grown into a professional worldwide sport.
This year the Mendip Mower Racing and Beer Festival will feature a kids field, a bouncy castle, crafts, kite making, face painting, entertainers, Segways, Mudbuggies, a Samba drumming workshop and pottery painting. Live music will include Simon Harris, Lauren Male, Fazed, Storm Warning, Ronin, The Purple Turtles and Interlude.
The Beer Festival, complete with over 25 real ales and ciders, will kick off at midday on the Sunday finishing at 5pm on the Monday. Visitors to the event won’t go hungry either as there will be a range of food on offer including local farm shop burgers, Thai food, stone baked pizza, fresh doughnuts, ice cream, candyfloss and cream teas.
The Mendip Mower Racing and Beer Festival is organised by YMCA Somerset Coast and the British Lawnmower Racing Association in 2014.
