What is it?
This year’s Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival takes place from 9th to 17th August 2014. The scarecrows first came to Kettlewell in 1994 as a way of raising money for the local school. The event has grown each year and now attract thousands of visitors during August.
Kettlewell is a picturesque village situated in the Yorkshire Dales and visitors are encouraged to explore some of the more unusual nooks and crannies around Kettlewell during the festival. Walk the Scarecrow Trail and see what you find hidden around the next corner. There is an adult’s trail and a children’s trail for visitors to take part in. The trail challenges participants to solve the riddles in order to find the mystery word and takes around two hours to complete. There are daily prizes up for grabs for children and adults during the festival.
Why not take a picnic and make a day of it? The Kettlewell area has plenty of good picnic spots to choose from. Alternatively, the village has several tea rooms and pubs serving food and drink. Refreshments, including homemade cake, will also be served in the village hall.
Money raised during Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival will go towards the school, village hall, church and other local organisations.
