The World Haggis Eating Championship and the Mad Kiltie Dash

By Caroline King - August 28, 2014Posted in : Alternative Sport

When: 30th August 2014

Where: Birnam Highland Games Park, Perthshire

£: Free

What is it?

On Saturday 30th August, the Birnam Highland Games take place with a whole host of traditional Scottish games including tossing the caber, piping and highland dancing.  However, the games also have a couple of unique and quirky contests too.  The games are home to the Mad Kiltie Dash and the World Haggis Eating Championship.

The World Haggis Eating Championship is free for anyone to enter.  The rules of the contest are really simple, basically the first person to eat all the haggis wins.

The second of the quirky events is the Kiltie Dash.  The dash is a fun race and is open to everyone to anyone on the field wearing a kilt.

The more traditional games will include tossing the caber, throwing the hammer, putting the stone and throwing the weight.  There are also piping and dancing competitions, as well as running, cycling and children’s races.

Birnam Highland Games were first held in 1864 and are one of the oldest games in Scotland.
