Whiston Festival of Brass When: 5th July 2014

Where: Whiston village, near Rotherham, South Yorkshire

£: Free to watch.  £20 for bands to enter.

What is it?

The Whiston Festival of Brass is an annual contest which aims to promote brass band music and raise money for charity at the same time.  This year the festival and brass band contest takes place in the village of Whiston in South Yorkshire on Saturday 5th July.

The festival will see brass bands march through the village to a contest venue, where they perform on a purpose-built outdoor stage to a seated audience.  This is followed in the evening by a last night at the proms style Brass for All concert.  The brass bands compete for prizes including the Overall
 Winning
Band
, the Most
Entertaining
Performance
 and Best
Instrumentalist.

The Whiston Festival of Brass is a popular family event and has plenty of attractions in addition to the brass bands.  This year there will be children’s rides, a fun fair, craft and village style fete stalls, hog roasts, ice cream vans, BBQs, outdoor bars, tombolas, raffles and competitions.
