What is it?
The Pershore Plum Festival runs from 27th July through to the end of August in Worcestershire.
For an entire month, the market town of Pershore turns purple as a tribute to the most famous plum of all, the Victoria. This year all the shops in the town will be creating purple window displays and there will be street celebrations throughout August. This includes ‘Plum Alley’, where music and entertainment mix with market stalls and plum-themed shops.
The opening event takes place on 27th July, when a local school girl will be chosen as the ‘Plum Princess’. The Plum Princess has the task of overseeing the festivities until the final Plum Fayre weekend, held over the August Bank Holiday.
The Pershore Plum Festival features a race night at Worcester Race Course on 29th July, with the Land O’Plums Chase. All the race goers are encouraged to wear purple for the popular event and festival mascot Prunella Plum together with the Plum Charmer will put in an appearance.
Throughout August, people can join in with one of the Plum Tours, which promise a complete plum-filled day out. Visit a historic plum orchard to pick plums, enjoy plum-tastings from jam to cake, and visit the horticultural mecca, Pershore College. Tickets for Plum Tours cost £12 for adults and £9 for children.
Plum Festival Day on 26th August will see a Plum Parade, along with a ‘Quest for the Pershore Plum and The Big Plum beer and music festival.
Over the bank holiday weekend visitors can expect a Plum Festival Arts Trail, a Plum Pooches dog show, a fun fair and boat trips.
