What is it?
Charlestown Regatta Week takes place from 26th July to 1st August in Cornwall with a whole host of nautical events.
Saturday 26th July is Regatta Day and will feature a triathlon, a raft race, water polo, a knobbly knees contest, sailing races and water golf. The raft races will have prizes for the best junior raft and most entertaining senior raft. The next day will be Sea Sunday, and will include a nautically themed afternoon with The Cape Cornwall Singers and The Pirates of St Piran.
Monday 25th July will include live music on the quay and Tuesday 26th July will be a day of children’s sports including an egg throwing contest. The Grand Carnival will take place in the Regatta Field on Thursday 31st July. A procession will take place from 7pm that evening with the Regatta Queen, the Bugle Silver Band and the Mount Charles Youth Band. This will be followed by a Proms in the Park event. The free proms event will feature the 1812 Overture performed to fireworks. A licensed bar and hot food will be also be available.
Finally, on Friday 1st August the Regatta Field will play host to Regatta Rocks, from 6.30pm to 11.30pm. There will be live music from Tango in the Night, XL5 and Backbeat Soundsystem, as well as a licensed bar, a Pimm’s bar and hot food stands. Tickets in advance for Regatta Rocks cost £8 for adults and £4 for children. Tickets on the gate will cost £10 for adults and £5 for children.
