What is it?
This year is the 10th annual Woolfest, held in Cockermouth, Cumbria. The event, held on 27th and 28th June, is a celebration of wool and wool crafts.
Woolfest offers a showcase of talents, a wealth of advice and knowledge and a treasure trove of natural fibres. The event will have 13 stallholders demonstrating skills including weaving, rug making, extreme knitting and freeform crocheting. On the Friday evening there will be a giant Spin/Knit In, giving the opportunity for wool and craft enthusiasts to get together.
Events in the main ring include sheep shearing demonstrations on both days, a rare breeds parade, and a fleece sale, with many fleeces from rare breeds. At 4pm on both days there will be some entertainment celebrating the native Herdwick sheep. Readings, images and music have been specially created for Woolfest 2014.
Woolfest will have an array of workshops, and there will be courses running nearby at Higham Hall to coincide with the event. Stallholders who will be at Woolfest include the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers, Alien Spinner, baa ram ewe, Eden Cottage Yarns and Fairfield Mill.
