What is it?
The time has come to pump up tyres and polish bicycle bells ready for the 5th Ringtons Velo Vintage ride in Exmouth on Father’s Day, Sunday 15th June.
Cyclists are travelling from across the UK, from as far as Edinburgh, to the beautiful Manor Gardens to cycle in colourful style and take tea in the company of a mixture of bicycles, many from a bygone era. From tandems to Penny Farthings, from tricycles to racing bikes, there will be all kinds of cycles joining this year’s Velo Vintage ride.
There is a choice of two routes on the ride, to suit all levels of fitness. The short route is about 18 miles long and reasonably flat. It takes the path along the Exe Estuary, passing through some delightful villages, along trails and quiet roads. The long route is about 26 miles and does contain some climbs, perfect if you like a bit of a challenge.
For gentlemen and ladies who like to dress in style, there is the opportunity and encouragement to dress up for the occasion. There will be prizes for the best moustache, best dressed vintage gent or lady and the best decorated bicycle. There will be a special raffle for Headway Devon with some very exciting prizes. Headway Devon is a local charity which aims to improve life for those with brain injuries.
The rides depart at about 10.30am. At around 12.30pm the cyclists are due to gather at The Double Locks, Exeter for lunch, with some lively music from swing band the Night Owls.
A Devon cream tea awaits the cyclists upon their return to the Manor Gardens in Exmouth.
From around 4.30pm there will be live music from the Exmouth Shanty Men, Just Misbehavin’ and the Night Owls. Those who have energy to spare can dance the evening away until 10pm, when the event finally wraps up. If you can’t make the cycle, just pop down to Manor Gardens from about 4.30pm onwards for some great live music.
Tickets for the ride can be purchased online and included in the ticket price is the light lunch, cream tea and entertainment. So if you like your bike rides to be sociable and fuelled by tea and cake, then this is for you!
