The annual London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival will be held on Sunday 29th June at the London Regatta Centre. The annual event has grown to become a significant date in London’s cultural summer calendar, attracting visitors from across the UK and overseas. The festival provides an excellent opportunity to experience Chinese culture. The dragon boat racing promises to be as exciting as ever; with 4 different cups up for grabs. Everyone is encouraged to participate from seasoned rowers to beginners alike.
In addition to the dragon boat race the event will include a food festival offering the flavours of Eastern Asia, Martial arts displays, and Traditional Chinese Lion Dancing. There will also be live music with two East West Festival stages showcasing new music from both the East and the West.
Appearing live on the two East West Festival stages will be new and breaking musical talent and entertainers from both corners of the globe. Performers include Robbie Boyd, whose feel-good folk-pop sound earned him a place in the top 20 of MTV’s Brand New Unsigned for 2013.

According to legend, the Dragon Boat Festival originated in ancient southern central China some 2,500 years ago along the banks of Yangtze River; around the same era the Olympic Games began in Greece. Today dragon boat racing is one of the most popular water sports both in China and internationally. Over a decade ago, London Chinatown Lions Club organised the first Dragon Boat Festival in London Docklands as a fundraiser for Chinese schools around the M25 area. The event has developed into a major cultural event in the Capital, attracting up to 10,000 attendees each year. The London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is still organised as a fund-raising event, with all net proceeds donated to nominated charities supported by London Chinatown Lions Club.
