What is it?
Conwy Town will be invaded for the third year in a row by pirates, buccaneers and salty sea dogs over the weekend of June 28th and 29th 2014 for Conwy Pirate Weekend.
A local informer who wishes to remain un-named has revealed that the pirates plan to attack the town on the Saturday at 2pm. A spectacle that should not be missed. But fear not land lovers, the Navy will be ever-present to help defend the walls should these scallywags get out of hand and break through the town’s initial defences. They will be setting up camp outside the town walls on the quay and will be inviting you to join them for a weekend of free family-friendly live entertainment.
Pirate themed entertainment will include Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers, who will be sailing over from the USA to perform throughout the weekend. Roslyn Walker and Harley will be debuting the all new Pyrate Circus Show, and Captain Gatling will amaze you with his award-winning magic. Plus, re-enactment societies The Hearts of Oak and Timeline will be demonstrating what life as a pirate was really like.
Alongside the singers, dancers, jugglers and magicians the very popular slave auction will be returning. This year the auction will be raising money for Change Step, the charity which helps ex-service personnel with everything from mental health issues to loneliness. For any budding pirates planning to head along to the weekend there is 2014’s Best Dressed Pirate up for grabs. The Smuggler’s Tavern will be serving drinks to help keep you going throughout the weekend and for those looking to trade their plundered gold for artefacts and antiquities you’ll be sure to find something of interest in the Smuggler’s Market.
There is also rumour of a Secret Pirate Party being planned for Friday 27th June, somewhere within Conwy, that will feature live music, comedy magic, escapology, food, drink and dancing in to the night.
