What is it?
Shuttlecock Inc presents In the Company of Savages, a unique pop-up dining experience at Winterwell’s Eccentric English Garden Party. Sandwiched amid an array of quintessentially English delights, like a slice of lightly-salted cucumber, Shuttlecock Inc will be hosting a feast fit for a bonkers baronet and his pet monkey.
Founded in 1857 and still flourishing today, The Savage Club is no ordinary gentlemen’s club. The club is a bohemian fellowship of eccentric luminaries from six prestigious disciplines; Art, Music, Drama, Literature, Science and Law, all joined in the most singular of pursuits, happiness.
Each summer, those members who aren’t off catching butterflies or composing minuets leave the hubbub of Whitehall Place behind and retire to the countryside for a decadent weekend of exquisite food, potent libations and all-round mayhem. This year, the club has chosen the bucolic surroundings of Aynhoe Park in Oxfordshire, for their exclusive excursion. A breathtaking 17th century Palladian manor set in 250 acres of Capability Brown gardens.
On13th and 14th June, they cordially invite you to join the likes of Sir George Sitwell – inventor of the musical toothbrush – and reclusive mystic, Lady Hester Stanthorpe, for an unforgettable evening of immersive entertainment and an indulgent four-course banquet. The feast will feature cold cut pigeon, chicory and pickled walnuts; confit sea trout, oyster emulsion, dill and cucumber; roast saddle of lamb, butter beans, courgettes and yoghurt; and mint and parsley cake with strawberries and vanilla ice cream.
With an ensemble of illustrious members holding court and more guffaws than a well-thumbed copy of Punch, In The Company of Savages promises to be the most extraordinary dinner party you’ve ever experienced.
But if a seated affair, however informal, makes you feel like a caged peacock then fear not as Shuttlecock Inc are also laying on this summer’s most gourmet picnic hampers. Find a sunny patch on one of Aynhoe’s many manicured lawns and enjoy a selection of treats. The hampers will contain sourdough bread; potted smoked mackerel with house pickles; cold cut rare beef, rocket, pickled walnut and horseradish crème fraiche; Creeler’s smoked salmon; Creeler’s smoked duck; radish, pea, truffle oil and pecorino salad (V); mini pain-au-chorizo or goat’s cheese, onion and walnut (V); lemon polenta cake; and local strawberries and cream. A £60 hamper feeds a greedy three or a hungry four.
Shuttlecock Inc. are four cousins from the creative Templeton family: Anna, Ollie, Will and Ed, who share a wealth of experience from the event, theatre, culinary, cocktail, music and advertising worlds. Last year was their busiest yet, with a string of sell out events including immersive pop-up dining experiences, Mile High, Vieux-Québec, The Great Indian Peninsula Railway and Rumble at The Deli.
