What is it?

The Pop Up Festival will take place in Purfleet on 3rd May.  Children’s writers, illustrators, poets and storytellers will be entertaining and inspiring families during a day of free events, activities and art workshops.

The one-day festival aims to bring books and stories to life with imaginative events and activities.  Highlights of the festival will include the works of fantasy author Sarwat Chadda’s Marvel Comics, brought to life through performance and monster puppets.  Novelist Julia Golding’s Arthurian Pavilion, featuring medieval game shows, knights, minstrels and the legendary Round Table.

There will also be illustrator Jane Ray’s giant toy theatre, telling tales of mermaids, firebirds and flying horses.  Mr Big illustrator, Ed Vere’s 1950s era jazz joint with cabaret, whacky cocktails and dressing-up.  James Mayhew’s Pop Up Art Gallery filled with stories and pictures.  Children can help Mayhew create masterpieces throughout the day.

The free Pop Up Festival will also be appearing in Swiss Cottage, London, on 12th and 13th July 2014.
