What is it?

Join a special guided walk and explore the hidden gems of Haggerston on two tours led by local historians.  The events are being held to compliment the My Haggerston exhibition in the 20th century wing of the Geffrye Museum.  You can visit the display at weekends until 13th April 2014.

The first walk, on 6th April, will be a circular cultural tour of Shoreditch with guide Anthony Burton.  The tour will discover the sites of Shakespearean theatres and Victorian music halls, including Hoxton Hall.  The second walk will provide an overview of the cultural heritage of Haggerston’s diverse communities over the last 50 years.  The tour will explore the history of places of worship, business, social history and night clubs, with guides Patrice Lawrence and Patrick Vernon.

The Geffrye Museum on Kingsland Road is free to visit and is dedicated to the history of the home.  The museum shows how homes have been decorated and furnished over the last 400 years. Walking from one end of the museum to the other is like taking a trip through time, seeing how tastes have changed.
