What is it?
Get your weekend off to a spooky start with ghosts, ghouls and ghastly tales at Brodsworth Hall in South Yorkshire on Friday 11th April.
M.R. James is thought of as one of the best ghost story tellers of all time, redefining the genre by using realistic settings. James’ stories were originally intended to be read aloud and at the Ghost Stories After Dark event the audience will hear one of James’ spooky stories.
As night falls, the ghost story A Warning to the Curious will be heard in the eerie and empty country house. The story was first published in 1925 and tells the tale of Paxton, an antiquarian and archaeologist who digs up a crown and finds himself stalked by a supernatural guardian. The tale is said to be one of James’ bleakest, so where better to hear it than inside the historic Brodsworth Hall after dark?
This event is part of the nationwide Museums at Night series.
