What is it?

The Festival of Vintage is celebration of bygone eras, from the 1930s to the 1960s, with music, dance, fashion, displays and workshops.

Get dressed up in your favourite vintage attire and step back in time to enjoy live music from wartime classics to swing and rock ‘n’ roll.  The line-up will include renowned five piece jive band, The Swing Commanders, 1950s style rockabilly band, Danny & The Swamp Men and 1940s sweetheart, Natasha Harper.   There will be 12 acts across two stages, offering music that spans across the decades; perfect for dancing to.

You can also take advantage of free dance lessons with Major Swing and GI Jive and learn some new steps.  Choose 1940s jive, triple time lindy hop or jitterbug stroll to get your feet tapping.

Festival of Vintage 2014 - York Racecourse Vintage fashion will form a huge part of the weekend with daily fashion parades showing the timeless style throughout the decades, as well as vintage bridal shows from York based Glory Days Vintage.  The Best Dressed Competition will offer the chance to win a £100 cash prize if you strut your stuff down the catwalk and impress the judging panel.  To complete your vintage style, why not visit the Vintage Beauty Parlour?

Explore displays of classic vehicles on the concourse with cars, bikes and caravans lined up for the Best in Show.  Head to the Nostalgia Hall and relive bygone days, meeting vintage enthusiasts in the Collector’s Corner.  The enthusiasts will be showing off jukeboxes, gramophones and radios, as well as an exceptional collection of Royal memorabilia.

At this year’s festival you can celebrate 50 years of Mod culture and the Swinging Sixties with Mod DJ’s and Northern Soul dance lessons.  There will also be original fashion from Mary Quant, scooters and displays.

The Vintage Shopping Arcade brings together over 150 dealers from across the UK, showcasing the best of vintage fashion, ceramics, textiles, music, toys and furniture. Many of the traders have been collecting rare and unusual items for months to showcase for the first time.  It promises a truly nostalgic time capsule of items from four vintage decades.
