Where: Todmorden, West Yorkshire

What is it?

In celebration of the Tour de France in Yorkshire, the Fantastical Cycle Parade will be a glorious ride through the streets of Todmorden in West Yorkshire with bicycles, tricycles, scooters, prams and wheelchairs.  These wheeled contraptions will be transformed into all manner of strange and wonderful creatures, bugs and beasts, to create a unique parade.

On the day, visitors and spectators should expect street performers and some surprising pedal-powered contraptions popping up throughout Todmorden town centre.  The event will feature an interesting mix of art, performance and music by Skiband, Handmade Samba Band, Thingumajig Theatre, Spacecadets and Granny Turismo.

The Fantastical Cycle Parade starts at 1pm at Centre Vale Park and the accompanying Street Festival takes place from 2pm to 4pm at Todmorden Market. Free workshops are taking place in the run-up to the parade where local residents can take along their bikes, prams, scooters and wheelchairs for an extreme makeover.

The parade is part of the Yorkshire Festival 2014, which is the first ever arts festival to precede the Tour de France in its 111 year history. The festival runs until 6th July 2014 and features 100s of arts and culture events and fringe events.  Visit festival.yorkshire.com to see the full programme of events taking place.
