Pinter’s Betrayal at The Old Joint Stock Theatre

By Caroline King - January 17, 2014Posted in : Theatre

Betrayal - Printer - Old Joint Stock Theatre - Birmingham When: 23rd – 25th January 2014 at 7:30pm

Where: The Old Joint Stock Theatre, Birmingham B2 5NY

£: Tickets cost £8 – £10

What is it?

The Old Joint Stock Theatre Company return with Pinter’s most tender and personal play.

Betrayal is based on Pinter’s own long and poignant seven-year affair with BBC presenter Joan Bakewell.  The play begins in 1977, at the end of Emma and Jerry’s lustful affair.  The narrative spools backwards through the death and life of their affair, its constituents torn between two beds and two realities.

Winner of the 1979 Olivier for Best New Play, Betrayal’s honesty and humor captures the fractured half-lives of the adulterers vividly on stage.
