What is it?

This Band is so Gorgeous is a documentary film about 1970s punk band Sham 69 and their tour of China.  On 27th January at Somerset House, there will be a screening of the film followed by a Q&A with the director.

Sham 69 are the first British punk band to visit China and they did so after receiving an email requesting a tour of the country.  This led the group of middle-aged white men to take a grinding trek across a country in the middle of social, economic and musical upheaval, under the guidance of their Chinese host Ray.  The film was nominated for best music documentary at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) last year and offers a fly-on-the-wall, warts-and-all story of what happened on their tour.

After the screening there will be a Q&A session with the film’s director, Dunstan Bruce.  Bruce is the former vocalist of Chumbawamba.
