What is it?
Saturday 16th November 2013 will see St Austell come alive with a day of stalls and entertainment in the town from 10am, in the build up to the Torchlight Carnival Procession at 6pm in the evening.
Last year’s daytime performances by local choirs and dance groups drew massive crowds to the town centre. Visitors to the town centre this year can expect plenty of singing and dancing during the day. The Amazing Rocco will wow the crowds with his magic and circus skills; the 8-year-old from Summercourt thrilled everyone with last year’s performance.
There will be charity stalls, trade stalls and children’s rides, making it a day out for all the family to celebrate the beginning of winter festivities in St Austell.
The carnival itself will assemble at 4.30pm at John Keay House, with entries being judged before the procession moves off at 6pm. The parade will make its way down through the town, ending at the One Stop Shop for a presentation of prizes. The carnival has grown year on year and last year saw over 1000 people join the spectacular parade. Once again local primary schools will compete against each other with their lantern making expertise. The standard of the work from pupils is expected to be extremely high. The community as a whole joins in the spirit of carnival with friendly, but fierce, rivalry as they compete for a top prize of £300 for the overall best illuminated or musical float.
The procession route will be as follows:
Tregonissey Road – Poltair Road – Carlyon Road – Kings Avenue – East Hill – South Street – Trinity Street – Truro Road – Bridge Road – Moorland Road – South Street – Penwinnick Road – One Stop Shop (Car Park).
