Take a trip on the Polar Express for some Arctic adventures in London

By Caroline King - September 27, 2013Posted in : Food & Drink, TOP-STORY

The Polar Express - Barts speakeasy - Maggie's nightclub When: Every Tuesday from 8th October 2013 from 6pm

Where: Sloane Avenue, Chelsea, London

What is it?

The secret speakeasy bar Barts and boutique 80s nightclub Maggie’s, have got together to cheer up Chelsea in the chilly run up to Christmas.   The Polar Express, launching on Tuesday 8th October, will offer a winter themed whistle-stop tour beginning at Barts.

The night will run every Tuesday throughout the colder calendar months of the year from 6pm onwards.  Guests will be welcomed ‘All Aboard the Uncle Barts Polar Express’ before heading over to Maggie’s to get involved in the ‘Lake Placid Winter Olympics’.

Greeted by Uncle Barts’ very own Polar Express ticket conductor, visitors will be able to enjoy hot Reyka Vodka chocolates whilst listening to tall tales of his Arctic adventures. Steaming mugs in hand, passengers will then be encouraged to delve into Barts infamous fancy dress box, which will be well stocked with fur hats, penguin costumes and other wacky winter wear.  Once dressed in appropriate winter gear, guests can head into the ornate winter garden for a bite to eat from the warming grill and a spot of Arctic ice fishing.

From 11pm passengers can catch a snowmobile for a complimentary ride and admission to Maggie’s nightclub, where they will find themselves transported to the ‘Lake Placid Winter Olympics’.  Here guests will be greeted with a glass of warming mulled wine and a ‘ski pass’, before making their way downstairs to the club where the dance floor will be transformed into a subterranean panorama of winter vistas and snowy peaks.

Clubbing competitors will be sporting retro ski wear of all styles and colours, from snowflake long johns, to neon onesies and will be given the opportunity to cut shapes any figure skater would be proud of, on the dance floor. Clubbers can test their seasonal skills during the Olympic ring throwing competition.  The winner will receive a ‘cool’ prize.

Barts is a quirky ‘speak easy’ style bar located on Sloane Avenue.  Maggie’s is named after Prime Minister Maggie Thatcher and club-goers can hear her famous speeches playing in the loos.
