What is it?

The annual Minehead Lifeboat Raft Race Day has been going for 34 years and this year takes place on Saturday 31st August.

The day’s main event is the raft race itself, which is believed to be the biggest sea-going raft race in the country.  The event attracts over 60 raft teams from across the UK.  The event has a fun fancy dress race of a mile in length across Minehead Bay and a more serious 5 mile race for the more competitive of the entrants.  The races finish in the picturesque harbour.  This year Grand Designs’ Kevin McCloud will be captaining his own raft.

The event will also feature DJ sets, and music from local band Wolfdown.  The day ends after sunset with  a fantastic fireworks display from the harbourside.  This day long spectacular is organised by a small number of serving and retired RNLI crew members and is the town’s biggest event of the year.
