Barnstaple is taken to tusk on Elephant Day

By Caroline King - August 23, 2013Posted in : Fair, Food & Drink

When: 24th August 2013

Where: The Square, Barnstaple, North Devon

£: Raising money for the Calvert Trust Exmoor

What is it?

Barnstaple will celebrate Elephant Day on 24th August with a fun-filled day in the heart of the historic market town. There will be craft stalls, local food and drink and the chance to meet ‘Barny’, The Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon‘s resident elephant.

Elephant Day celebrates the discovery in 1844 of the fossilised remains of a prehistoric straight tusked elephant under Summerland Street in Barnstaple.
