What is it?
This will be the ninth Bog Snorkelling Championships to be held in Northern Ireland and aims to raise awareness about the importance of bogs which are home to many species of plants and animals. If you want to try something different and don’t mind getting dirty then this could be the challenge for you.
Competitors don a snorkel, mask and flippers to swim two lengths of a 60-yard bog drain in the hope of becoming the Northern Ireland Bog Snorkelling Champion. There will also be a fancy dress competition for those who like an extra challenge.
The championships are being held as part of International Bog Day. For those who wish to stay dry there will be guided walks across the bog and traditional turf cutting demonstrations as well as live music and arts and crafts.
