What is it?
For 41 years, the Cumbria Steam & Vintage Vehicle Society has been bringing together vintage vehicles from across the world to Cark Airfield in Flookburgh, near Grange-over-Sands, for one massive summer gathering.
The Cumbria Steam Gathering is a colourful and noisy weekend event with plenty of entertainment; featuring steam engines and vintage commercial vehicles, as well as hundreds of classic transport favourites including cars, motorcycles, bicycles, agricultural and industrial tractors, farm equipment and stationary engines.
Jack Dibnah and his brother Roger are intending to drive their roller from Lancashire up to the Cumbria Steam Gathering.
In the working area, weather permitting, there will be demonstrations of ploughing, cultivating, woodsawing and haymaking machinery. See the archery skills of the Kendal Bowmen in the working area and take the opportunity to drive a traction engine in the main arena.
For children there will be magic shows, miniature remote-controlled car racing and a traditional fairground with many vintage rides and attractions, some that are almost 100 years old. Teenagers (aged 13 – 16 years) can complete a Junior Tractor Driver Training Course (pre-booking is essential for this two-day course).
