What is it?
This June sculptor and artist Juliet Simpson will host an Open Studio in her studio in Underriver in Kent as part of the South East Open Studios initiative.
Simpson’s studio is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty in the Kent countryside. There will be a sculpture trail on a hillside overlooking glorious views of the Weald of Kent, featuring small and large bronzes, an oak Noah’s Ark and larger mixed media pieces.
A secret owl trail dotted through the woodland, with owl’s faces peeking through the trees is a fun activity for children of all ages, while adults can relax in the garden taking in the views; guests are invited to stay as long as they like, bringing a picnic, as well as using the studio as a starting point for a walk in the surrounding area, including historic homes such as the National Trust’s Ightham Mote and Knole Park.
Simpson’s work ranges from £40 for small resin bronzes up to £2,500 for larger bronzes. There are also four life-size, resin kingfishers for £95, of which all proceeds will go to Amnesty International, alongside a fully equipped oak Noah’s Ark for £5,000. A perfect opportunity for young and new collectors to get started as well as those more seasoned to pick up something new.
As part of South East Open Studios, Simpson’s studio is a good starting point to pick up a guide and visit some other artist in the local area.
