Cinco de Mayo - Cantina Laredo When: 3rd – 5th May 2013

Where: Cantina Laredo, 10 Upper St Martin’s Lane, St Martin’s Courtyard, London WC2H 9FB

£: 25 for the tequila tasting and master class

What is it?

As people around the world gather to celebrate Mexico’s victory over the French at ‘La Batalla de Puebla’, London’s modern Mexican restaurant, Cantina Laredo, is bringing the festivities to Covent Garden with a three-day fiesta of all things Mexican, kicking off on Friday 3rd May.

Cantina Laredo will be decked out in traditional Mexican finery with everything from colourful serape fabrics to sombreros and piñatas.  Get in the mood and don a sombrero while dining and Cantina Laredo will give you a complimentary shot of El Jimador Tequila for your troubles.

There will be live music from Mexteca (the Mariachi band of Doritos TV advert fame), serenading diners.  A limited edition ‘Margarita de Mayo’ made with passion fruit, vanilla, El Jimador Tequila Blanco and an added kick of habanero chilli is available for £4.95 the entire weekend, to spice things up.

Cinco de Mayo - Cantina Laredo There will be a menu of modern Mexican dishes to enjoy, including fresh ceviche, enchiladas de mole (soft corn tortillas filled with tender chicken breast, topped with a spicy chocolate sauce made with dried peppers), lamb rump with a pumpkin seed crust with pistachio pipian sauce, as well as Cantina Laredo’s signature ‘top shelf’ guacamole made fresh at the table.  Dessert includes a tangy tequila lime cheesecake served with avocado ice cream and the national favourite, traditional churros, served with orange crème and spiced chocolate sauce.

A tequila master class and tasting will be held at Cantina Laredo at 1.30pm on Saturday 4th May, teaming up with Herradura.  The master class will include a tutorial which should enhance your knowledge of tequila, followed by a tasting of blanco, responsado and añejo tequilas.  The tasting will be accompanied by guacamole, salsa’s, quesadillas and flautas canapés.  Tickets must be booked in advance and are available for £25 per person.
