Canal Art for Beginners at the Black Country Living Museum

What is it?

Learn about the traditions of folk canal art with one of the UK’s leading canal artists, Julie Tonkin.

A brief history of canal art will be discussed and practice artwork will be undertaken.  Then each participant will paint a piece of canal ware to be taken home at the end of the course.

Julie Tonkin is a professional narrow boat decorator, painting narrow boats and traditional items of canal ware for boats.  Tonkin has been teaching the painting of roses and castles for many years and has a keen interest in canal culture and customs.

This is a Heritage Skills Daytime Course.  The maximum number of places on the course is 15.
