Where: Jacksons Lane, 269a Archway Road, London N6 5AA
What is it?
Peter Hawkins will be performing a selection of songs from his new CD, Love and Anarchy – The Songs of Léo Ferré, at Jacksons Lane. He will also be sharing some of the stories behind the songs.
French singer-songwriter Léo Ferré is comparable to Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen in the English-speaking world; a poet and a challenging commentator on contemporary society with songs influencing a whole generation. However, Ferré’s songs are little known in the UK. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ferré’s death in 1993, Hawkins has recorded an album devoted to new English adaptations of his songs. Hawkins will try to re-create the atmosphere of the French singer’s concerts at the show.
