Wrestling gets saucy in Lancashire

By Caroline King - August 9, 2012Posted in : Alternative Sport, FEATURED-STORIES

World Gravy Wrestling Championships When: August 27th 2012 from 12pm

Where: Rose n Bowl, Stacksteads, Rossendale, Lancashire OL13 0UG

£: Proceeds from the day go to East Lancashire Hospice and entrants wrestle on behalf of their chosen charity (entry is on a first come first served basis).

What is it?

A wrestling competition with a difference as contestants wrestle for two minutes in a pool full of Lancashire gravy!  The competition is scored by audience applause and various different moves.

Contestants are encouraged to wear fancy dress, with a prize for the best outfit.  There will be 16 male and 8 female participants competing in (same-sex) bouts. The lucky winners of the final will have their name engraved on the ‘Gravy Wrestling World Championship Trophy’ which they get to keep for a year.

The event is sponsored by East Lancashire Hospice and all proceeds on the day will be donated to them, so why not head along and watch this wacky wrestling competition?
