SO Festival, free festival in Skegness, 29 June - 1 July 2012

Shauna Richardson's giant crocheted lions appearing at this year's festival

When: 29th June – 1st July 2012

Where: Skegness

£: Free

What is it?

The free three-day festival promises to offer something for everyone as Skegness is transformed into a colourful carnival of light, colour, dance, opera, street theatre, comedy, music and more.

This year’s event includes a fireworks display, visits from three giant crocheted lions, the 90-strong Desmond & Leah Tutu Peace Choir and international actor Colin McFarlane (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, Torchwood and Judge John Deed), a huge, magical inflatable network of chambers, impressive art exhibitions along the promenade and three world premieres.

Highlights include As the World Tipped on 30th June, a performance featuring a giant aerial stage suspended over the audience in the night sky.  There is also a Bicycle Ballet on 29th June which promises to be a visual spectacle on wheels.  Don’t be surprised by other curious sights around Skegness including a giant lobster, a run away Punch and Judy and an over-sized pig!
