Baa-my fun with Tetbury Woolsack Races

By Caroline King - May 28, 2012Posted in : Alternative Sport, Fair

When: 4th June 2012 (bank holiday Monday)

Where: Tetbury, Gloucestershire

£: Teams 24, individuals 7 and youth teams 12 to take part.  Free to watch.

What is it?

Tetbury, once known for its thriving wool and yarn markets, celebrates its history with a unique and quirky race through the town.

The race, originally run between two pubs (The Royal Oak and The Crown), is thought to have begun with young drovers showing off their strength to the local women.

Today the race has a shorter course of 240yds and is complemented by a street fair with stalls, a funfair, music and entertainers making it a great day out suitable for the whole family.

Watch a rather quirky video of last year’s entrants below.
