Mr Edgar Allan Poe’s Terrifying Tales

By Caroline King - September 13, 2011Posted in : Theatre

When: 16th September 2011 at 8pm

Where: The Old Joint Stock, 4 Temple Row West, Birmingham, B2 5NY

£: 10 (8 concessions)

What is it?

Candle-lit story-telling, gallows humour and terrifying tableaux guaranteed to raise goose-bumps of dark Gothic delight.  The Old Joint Stock invites you to feel the beat of the tell-tale heart, explore the House of Usher and heed the ravens call.  Hear the tales of Edgar Allan Poe and witness the horror for yourself.  Contemporary twists prove the enduring power of these classic tales.

Tin Shed Theatre’s latest piece, Mr Edgar Allan Poe’s Terrifying Tales, will blur the lines between storytelling and performance.  Utilising only three chairs, a collection of books and a few empty bottles some of Poe’s most terrifying tales are brought to life in this compelling and visually inventive performance.

“The work we do is as varied as the stuff that inspires it.  From performing in the back of moving taxi’s to coaxing audience members into writing their darkest secrets on our skin.  We try to make what we do engaging, exciting and thought-provoking, whilst never forgetting the importance of entertainment.  We want to introduce our self to strangers, be bold and brave.  Amaze with a tale and transport audiences to a place that, although remains detached from the literal, can still enlighten our perceptions of the real world.” Justin Cliffe
