What is it?
This September, the Hayward Gallery shop at Southbank Centre will be transformed into an extraordinary fantasy landscape as part of This Is Not A Pop-Up, a new venture designed to showcase the work of some of today’s most exciting designers.
Celebrating design talent with a difference, the initiative will see remarkable creations from a series of designers, starting with Tina Tsang from Undergrowth Design. Each of the designers will have the opportunity to put their own unique stamp on the shop in the breaks between Hayward Gallery exhibitions. Visitors will also be able to buy select pieces from these designers.
Tsang and fellow designer, Miho Ashima, will be creating an interactive fantasy experience which will include a huge origami sculpture made from paper cranes originally conceived for the Japanese Tsunami Fund. Tsang will also be showcasing one-off chairs and an astroturfed landscape in addition to her extraordinary tableware items that play on the dark side of the imagination while incorporating playful touches. Prices start from £12.
“It’s going to be fascinating to see how each designer reacts to the concrete space and creates something special. We have always strived to do something different in the Hayward Gallery shop and this is going to be a colourful and creative experiment. Having worked with Tina previously we think her products are unique, desirable and collectable and I am delighted that we are getting the chance to work with her again”, said Adam Thow, Head of Retail Buying at Southbank Centre.
