A night of harmony and 1940’s nostalgia in Laugharne

What is it?

The fabulous ‘Siren Sisters’ are in town for a wonderful night of 1940’s nostalgia.  The Siren Sisters are a 1940’s esque close harmony singing trio from Cardiff who have been inspired by the likes of the Andrews Sisters, The Boswell Sisters, The Fontane Sisters and many more.  Sarah, Jo and Helena, three past and present students of music and theatre are creating a musical sensation which has seen them come a long way in the short time that they have been performing.  From starting out in small venues and rehearsing in Sarah’s living room they have recently found themselves in demand with a string of sell out performances at some very high profile events.

Matthew Hughes of the Tin Shed museum said, ‘It’s fantastic to have the girls perform for us.  They have really supported us through the creation of the museum and we were delighted when they agreed to be a part of our 1940’s evening.  They are a really big act on the retro/vintage scene and are used to playing venues like St. Davids hall, Birmingham NEC, The Royal Horticultural Show, Armed Forces Day and ‘Camp Bestival’ in Dorset, which was voted 2010’s best family festival.’

The night will also have a popular dance duo from Carmarthen on hand to give some displays of Lindyhop and Charleston among other dances.  Jive’s Alive’s Pat & Sian Thomas are looking forward to getting people on their feet and are more than willing to teach those that would like to learn.

Matthew Hughes of the Tin Shed museum sees this as a golden opportunity to get local people enthused in the resurgence of all things retro.  ‘Having people like Pat & Sian participate on the night will be great, they run a popular dance course in Revue studios in Swansea as well as being members of the increasingly popular West Wales Rock & Roll club.  Their enthusiasm and dance skills, combined with the vocal talents of the Siren Sisters is something that we hope will really strike a chord in people.  He goes on ‘retro fashion is as popular as ever and the night will be a perfect way to show off your latest outfit.  We are looking to pull out all the stops for this event and intend on having lots of little surprises to further add to the evening.  In the future we would like to team up with the rock and roll clubs, theatre groups and vintage clothing stores in the area and help make these types of period events into fully fledged timeslip weekenders.’
