Where: Various venues around Wakefield
£: 12 (Saturday ticket), Sunday events are free
What is it?
Wakefield-based fanzine, Rhubarb Bomb, has teamed up with music and comedy venue The Hop (owned by Ossett Brewery) to create a city wide event.
Music comes from The Wedding Present, Los Campesinos!, Darwin Deez, The Wave Pictures, Emmy The Great, Emma Pollock (formerly of The Delgados) & I Like Trains as well as local favourites such as Napoleon IIIrd, Middleman, Runaround Kids, Just Handshakes (We’re British) and Fonda 500. As well as Darwin Deez heading over from New York, they welcome Stanley Brinks and Clemence Freschard who will be heading over from Berlin, and the Clandestines coming all the way from Malta.
The idea bounced into life after a PRS report last year placed Wakefield as the UK’s 3rd greatest musical city. So Rhubarb Bomb decided there would be no greater time to launch a festival in the city, and Long Division was born.
An opening event will take place at The Hop on the Friday night (TBC) whilst the Sunday will be the Long Division ‘Fringe Festival’ where even more venues will open their doors to showcase the best in local talent. This event will be free.
More info: Tickets for the Saturday event are available from Jumbo Records, Crash Records, See Tickets and Ticket Web. This gets the ticket holder a wristband allowing them to wander between the venues at their leisure. Visit the Long Division festival website for more details.
