Merry Crypt-mas!

By Caroline King - December 2, 2010Posted in : Art, Exhibition

When: 2nd – 22nd December 2010

Where: The Crypt, St Pancras Church Euston Rd, Duke’s Rd, London NW1 2BA

£: Free

What is it?

Crypt-mas is a subterranean Christmas art experience for all ages, set in a historical and atmospheric venue with alcoves, arched ceilings and ghosts of Christmas past.

Illumini takes guests on an alternative Christmas journey  along walls lit with bright, colourful projections and effects to guide the way past tombstones and illuminating artworks.  Hidden deep inside is Illumini’s very own Father Crypt-mas, an art installation based on a futuristic, robotic Santa.  He is there to greet all his guests from young to old, with surprises for the children.  Children can also participate in free workshops during their visit and make their own festive gifts to take home with them.

The grand opening night sees the  front of the church transformed into a frozen, dreamlike world of crystallising structures by artists SDNA.  During the course of the evening there will be performers working with light including fire performances, illuminating juggling, dancers, singers, light shows and create-your-own light graffiti (watch the results projected onto the building itself).  Carnival collective Kinetika will be showcasing their new, illuminating puppets that will be walking around the event looking for new friends to meet.  Enjoy a glass of mulled wine or warm yourself with hot soup.  There will be free glow sticks and surprises for children.

Please note, arrive early for the opening night to avoid disappointment as it does tend to get busy.
