Past Continuous, Tony Bayliss - Sparkling Books Title: Past Continuous

Author: Tony Bayliss

£: 9.99 (paperback)

What is it all about?

Past Continuous centres around two bright, headstrong characters, Matthew and Sophie.  They grow up in different homes, with different family issues, but are closer together than they can possibly realise.  Matthew becomes impatient and disillusioned with his life, and in a moment of desperation decides to end it.  It is up to Sophie to bring him back to life, if they have a chance to ever be together.

As Sophie fights to find her ideal man she gets deeper and deeper involved, along with Matthew’s father in trying to find out what has happened to Matthew and to try to find happiness.  To find the man of her dreams she uncovers potential conspiracies, secret technology, family upsets and finally has to make the most important decision of her life.

Past Continuous is part love story, part sci-fi, with hints of government conspiracy and family fall-outs.  It’s an interesting mix which gives an extra dimension to the usual boy meets girl love story.  Yes it’s far-fetched and not overly taxing on the whole but if you are looking for something escapist and a bit different then you could do worse.
