What is it?
The University of Birmingham and The Drum would like to invite you to a witness seminar assessing the significance of the rebellions in Handsworth 25 years ago. Chaired by the writer and presenter Dr. Robert Beckford, alongside academics, artists and activists, the event attempts to place the rebellions in the broad and politically dynamic context of Handsworth and Britain in the 1980s. What were the politics of this period? What role did culture and the arts play? What forms did they take? You are invited to take part in trying to answer these questions and assess the legacy of one of the defining periods in the recent histories of Birmingham and Britain. Refreshments will be served.
