What is it?
Every August Glasgow hosts the international piping festival, Piping Live! There are Come and Try Sessions at The National Piping Centre where you can have a go at playing the pipes, or how about Gaelic Taster Session at the Centre of Contemporary Arts? If you head to George Square you will find a replica still and an exhibition showing the process of whisky making and barrelmaking displays courtesy of Glenfiddich.
On Monday 9th there will be a wealth of piping bands in George Square including The Pipe Band Club, Boghall and Bathgate Novice Juvenile Pipe Band, and the City of Regina Pipe Band. On Tuesday 5 – 7pm there will be performances from Highland Fusion, Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra and the Kilted Caricaturist can be seen in the square. Fancy some dancing? How about the Grand Highland Summer Ceilidh at St Andrew’s in the Square on Thursday 12th?
On Friday the 13th Glasgow Green will be home to The World Pipe Band Championships. Perhaps you might like to round up the festival fun by enjoying some food, music and tunes at the Street Cafe’s Sunday Surviver Session? Visit the Pipling Live! website for more unusual, entertaining and interesting piping events.
