What is it all about?
A woman pushes a man to his death, but all is not as it seems in Dudley’s first novel, Ellipsis. This is more of a why-dunnit than a who-dunnit. More than just a thriller, it’s one persons journey out of madness and another persons into it.
The book follows Sarah and Thom’s confused, troubled lives as they try to make sense of their situation and fumble through an unconventional love affair. After the death of his cousin Daniel, Thom finds himself searching for answers about his death and the secrets he kept. Sarah is also searching for answers but for more personal reasons.
The way the plot twists, turns and reveals, is interesting enough. However, some of the twists frustratingly don’t really lead anywhere. I also found it a little unlikely how Sarah and Thom’s lives become entwined so easily and the state of their minds changes so quickly.
Despite all these little niggles the plot is curious enough to keep you reading, with the characters’ situations and mindset being equally intriguing. I did find myself eager to reach the end to find out how it would conclude, so that can only be a good thing.
