What was it?
Clowns? Check. Comedians? Check. Embarrassment? Check. Well then, it must be Karaoke Circus! Martin White dragged together the best comic talent, clown-faced musicians, a panel of judges and a few brave individuals into a tiny basement room for a truly fun night out.
The performances came courtesy of among others Josie Long, Richard Herring, Andrew Collins, Dave Gorman, Jeremy Hardy, Robin Ince, Jessica Hynes and Dave Gorman. The judges consisted of Dan Maier (who writes TV Burp) and the ever hard to please Baron. Jessica Hynes earned the first standing ovation of the night because she can actually sing. Luckily for entertainment’s sake, not everyone could. The only other standing ovation of the night was for Chris Addison’s rendition of Pulp’s Common People. But then he did bribe the crowd with Super Noodles. The most rock ‘n’ roll performance belonged to Dave Gorman. He finished off his version of Song 2 by stage diving and crowd surfing. No mean feat in the cramped room. I’m not sure most rock ‘n’ roll superstars spend 5 minutes organising the crowd before they jump though!
